Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi adds PEN15 star Maya Erskine

April 22, 2021 by Ricky Church

As production on the Disney+ Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi gets underway, Deadline has reported another piece of casting. WGA and Emmy-nominated PEN15 co-creator and star Maya Erskine is the latest to join the anticipated series set in the galaxy far, far away.

Much like most of the announced cast, there is no word on who Erskine will portray, but Deadline notes she will be a recurring character in at least three of the six episodes of the series.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor reprising his Prequel Trilogy role as the exiled Jedi Master living on Tatooine in the decades between the trilogies. Hayden Christensen, who played Obi-Wan’s Apprentice in Episode II and III of the prequels, will also reprise his role as Anakin/Darth Vader, though in what exact capacity Christensen will appear is a mystery for fans.

Also returning to Star Wars is Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, having previously been seen as Owen and Beru Lars, the uncle and aunt of Luke Skywalker, in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Joining them are franchise newcomers Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

As per the official Disney+ synopsis, Obi-Wan Kenobi “begins ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is being directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian), with McGregor, Chow, Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan and writer Joby Harold executive producing.
