Kiefer Sutherland set for new espionage thriller series at Paramount+

May 17, 2021 by Gary Collinson

24 and Designated Survivor star Kiefer Sutherland looks to have lined up his next project, with EW reporting that he’ll channel Jack Bauer for an as-yet-untitled espionage drama series set up at Paramount+.

From writer-directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (This Is Us), the series will see Sutherland starring as “private espionage operative James Weir in the midst of a battle over the preservation of democracy in a world at odds with misinformation, behavioral manipulation, the surveillance state and the interests that control these extraordinary powers.”

“Kiefer Sutherland and powerful, heart-pounding dramas go hand in hand,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming, Paramount+. “We’re thrilled to have him and master storytellers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra at the helm, taking us on a very personal ride to uncover the truth. We look forward to introducing the Paramount+ audience to the service’s newest addition as we continue to expand our slate of original tentpole series.”

Sutherland was last seen in The Fugitive, an adaptation of the classic TV series and Harrison Ford movie, which aired on the short-lived short-form streaming service Quibi. He will serve as executive producer on the new series alongside Requa, Ficarra, Charlie Gogolak (The Sinner) and Suzan Bymel (Designated Survivor).
