Whatever Happened To: Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man

May 9, 2021 by Gary Collinson

The story behind Edgar Wright’s unmade Ant-Man movie…

Since launching back in 2008, Marvel Studios has went on to enjoy unprecedented box office success, churning out hit after hit to make the Marvel Cinematic Universe the highest-grossing movie franchise in history.

While there’s been plenty of good fortune along the way, it hasn’t always been plain sailing for Kevin Feige and company, and in the latest episode of our video series Whatever Happened To?!, Flickering Myth’s EJ Moreno is diving into the story behind one of the most high-profile unproduced movies of the MCU: Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.

Wright’s involvement with Ant-Man actually predates not only the MCU, but also his early cult favourites Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, with the British filmmaker first working on a pitch for the size-shifting superhero back in 2003 before becoming one of Marvel Studios’ earliest hirings when he and writing partner Joe Cornish officially signed on to develop the movie in 2006.

After spending several years in development hell, Wright’s Ant-Man found itself slated for Phase Three of the MCU before creative differences saw the director abruptly exiting the project and Marvel pressing on ahead without him. Here’s EJ with the full story…

Are you still disappointed that we never got to see Edgar Wright’s version of Ant-Man? Let us know, either in the video comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth, and if you enjoyed the video be sure to follow to us on YouTube, and check out at past episodes of Whatever Happened To? here…
