Borat’s Maria Bakalova cast in rom-com The Honeymoon

August 31, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Maria Bakalova, the Academy Award nominated breakout star of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm has added romantic comedy The Honeymoon to her burgeoning resume.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bakalova will play Sarah, a new bride who sets off with her husband on a romantic honeymoon in Venice, only to have the event gate-crashed by Adam’s excessively needy best friend, who turns their lovers’ holiday into a complete disaster. Pico Alexander (Home Again), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) and Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris) will co-star in the British-Italian production from Italy’s Notorious Cinemas. Dean Craig, who most recently directed Love Wedding Repeat, will be calling the shots as filming gets underway in September.

As well as The Honeymoon, Bakalova has also signed on to appear in Judd Apatow’s Netflix lockdown comedy Bubble, and A24 slasher flick Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
