Mission: Impossible 7 CinemaCon footage promises the franchise’s biggest stunt yet

August 27, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The Mission: Impossible films are getting increasingly crazy with their stunts. From underwater feats to scaling the tallest buildings, star Tom Cruise is willing to do anything, and it seems he may have done his wildest stunt yet with the upcoming seventh instalment.

During Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon on Thursday, the audience was treated to a first look at the big stunt from Mission: Impossible 7. Reports say we see Cruise riding a motorcycle and jumping off a cliff in Norway.

“This is far and away the most dangerous thing I’ve attempted; we’ve been working on this for years,” said Cruise in a video shown at CinemaCon, with a crew member adding: “Tom Cruise just rode a bike off a cliff six times today.”

The stunt was filmed on the first day of principal photography and saw Cruise training for months ahead of it. Cruise prepared for the feat by skydiving in the air (500 times). According to the footage, a cycle jumping course was built, which Cruise also trained on, jumping hills 30 times a day.

To close out the footage, director Christopher McQuarrie teased the impossible task of topping this stunt, stating: “The only thing that scares me more is what we’ve got planned for Mission 8.”

Mission: Impossible 7 is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and features returning stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Henry Czerny, along with new additions Esai Morales (Titans), Hayley Atwell (Avengers: Endgame), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Charles Parnell (The Last Ship), and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride).

Mission: Impossible 7 is set for release on May 27th 2022.
