New images from Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

August 5, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

With Black Widow now in the rear-view mirror, Marvel Studios is turning its marketing focus to the next chapter of the MCU, the Simu Liu-led Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and thanks to Empire we’ve got a couple of new stills from the movie which feature Liu’s titular hero Shang-Chi along with the villainous Razor Fist, played by Florian Munteanu.

Meanwhile, speaking to the outlet, director Destin Daniel Cretton has revealed that he was drawn to the movie by the opportunity to represent Asian-American identity, stating that: “I grew up with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and Jet Li. But I haven’t seen a hero on screen that really walks and talks like me, dresses like me, listens to the music that me and my friends listen to; somebody truly Asian-American. And that was what was really exciting to me, to create something that just shows the Asian-American experience through the eyes of a budding superhero.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) and stars Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as Shang-Chi, Tony Leung (Infernal Affairs) as Wenwu, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Katy, newcomer Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery) as Jiang Nan, Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) as Jon Jon, Fala Chen (The Undoing) as Jiang Li, Florian Munteanu (Creed II) as Razor Fist, Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) as Wong and Dallas Liu (Pen15) in an undisclosed role.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for release on September 3rd.
