The Matrix 4 is titled The Matrix Resurrections, CinemaCon footage description revealed

August 25, 2021 by Ricky Church

Among the news coming out of CinemaCon, like the first reactions to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Warner Bros. has added to the excitement with the first footage for The Matrix Resurrections, the official title for the fourth film in The Matrix franchise which sees Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity.

While they trailer was exclusive to CinemaCon attendees, the description reads as follows:

In the not-too-distant future of San Francisco, Neo is once again living an ordinary life as Thomas Anderson. He is talking with his therapist, played by Neil Patrick Harris, about how he doesn’t understand the world he lives and asks “am I crazy? to which Harris merely they don’t use the word “crazy” in his office.

Neo then meets Trinity in a cafe with neither one apparently recognizing the other as she asks him if they’ve met.

Blue pills are poured into a sink as Neo looks into a mirror and transformers into an old man. An apparently younger Morpheus hands him a red pill and tells him its “time to fly”. From there, the usual action of The Matrix is showcased with its karate, jumps and bullet-time slow-mo.

The Matrix Resurrections is directed by Lana Wachowski from a script by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. The cast features returning Matrix cast members Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) and Daniel Bernhardt (Agent Johnson) alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Neil Patrick Harris (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Jonathan Groff (Frozen II), Priyanka Chopra (Baywatch), Ellen Hollman (Spartacus), Andrew Caldwell (iZombie), and Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow), as well as Sense8 stars Erendira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix Resurrections is set for release on December 22nd.
