Child’s Play creator Don Mancini tells us what to expect from Chucky in new featurette

September 16, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

With just over a month to go before the SyFy channel ask if you ‘wanna press play’ on their new take on the Child’s Play franchise, original creator Don Mancini has been telling viewers what to expect from season one of Chucky in this new featurette.

“I wanted to bring the series back to its Child’s Play roots, that involved teenagers that had more complicated issues that they’re dealing with, like bullying,” said Mancini. “With this first season of the TV series we use Chucky as a metaphor for bullying, and in a way I think Chucky’s the perfect bully, because he becomes, as he always has in our franchise, in the guise of being your best friend”.

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Chucky is set to premiere on October 12th on both Syfy and USA Network.
