Star Trek: Picard casts Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen

September 3, 2021 by Ricky Church

The second season of Star Trek: Picard will see the return of a familiar and very deadly enemy to the former Enterprise captain. Annie Wersching (Bosch) will star as the Borg Queen for what will be a recurring role.

The Borg Queen commands the hive mind of the Borg, controlling their actions with the objective of assimilating all life into the collective. While it is rare for Borg drones to have individual personalities and thoughts, the Borg Queen is unique in how her behaviour, thoughts and desires are completely her own. She was first introduced in Star Trek: First Contact, played by Alice Krige, as the primary antagonist and then returned in the Star Trek: Voyager series finale ‘Endgame’.

Star Trek: Picard season two see the return of Q to Picard’s life as he seemingly rewrites history for Picard and the lives of his crew. How this will mark the return of the Borg Queen, and whether or not Wersching will play the same one as Krige or a new queen in this altered timeline, remains to be seen.

Funny enough, this will not be Wersching’s first time in the Star Trek franchise. One of her first roles in her career was in the first season Star Trek: Enterprise episode ‘Oasis’, playing an alien who was stranded on a planet after ship crash.

Season two of Star Trek: Picard sees Patrick Stewart joined by returning season one cast members Jeri Ryan, Brent Spiner, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, and Orla Brad. John de Lancie returns as Q, while Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton are also rumoured to be reprising their roles as Guinan and Geordi La Forge.
