Ridley Scott’s Napoleon biopic Kitbag to begin production in January

Ridley Scott has scheduled his next film Kitbag, a historical biopic on the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, for a January 2022 production start date.

Speaking with the BBC’s Today, Scott confirmed Kitbag would be his next project with a start date of January 15th. The film will reunite him with his Gladiator and The Last Duel stars Joaquin Phoenix and Jodie Comer as Napoleon and his wife Josephine. He described the film to BBC as “a monster” of a production.

Kitbag will offer “a look at Napoleon’s origins and swift, ruthless climb to emperor status, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”

Kitbag was written by David Scarpa (All The Money in the World) and will be produced by Scott and Kevin Walsh through Scott Free. Meanwhile, Scott’s latest film House of Gucci opens this week. You can read our review of the film here.
