Under Siege reboot in the works at Warner Bros. and HBO Max

November 25, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. and HBO Max are working on a reboot of Under Siege, the 1992 ‘Die Hard on a Boat with Erika Eleniak in a Cake’ action thriller starring Steven Seagal.

The new film, which is being produced directly for the HBO Max streaming service, is based on a pitch from writer Umair Aleem (Kate) and director Timo Tjahjanto (Headshot, The Night Comes for Us).

Plot details are being kept under wraps, and there’s no word yet as to whether Seagal could make his return as Casey Ryback, the former Navy SEAL turned Navy cook who found himself battling mercenaries led by Tommy Lee Jones on board a decommissioned battleship in the original film.

Seagal’s biggest hit with over $156 million at the worldwide box office, Under Siege was a critical and commercial success, and even managed to grab a couple of Oscar nominations in the Sound categories. It was followed by the 1995 sequel Under Siege 2: Dark Territory.
