Exclusive Interview – The Power of the Dog production designer Grant Major

December 15, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Martin Carr chats with production designer Grant Major about The Power of the Dog…

Grant Major is an Oscar winning set decorator and revered production designer who is most closely associated with writer-director Peter Jackson. Having worked on the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Heavenly Creatures amongst others, Grant Major comes with credentials. However, beyond the global force which is Peter Jackson, he has also collaborated with arthouse impresario Jane Campion.

Their professional relationship started some thirty years ago with her debut feature Angel At My Table, but has recently been renewed through Benedict Cumberbatch headliner The Power of the Dog. An unflinching look at fractured relationships on a working ranch amid family secrets in America circa 1925. Recently, Grant Major took time out to talk with Martin Carr about the project, and why Jane Campion remains such a creative force in cinema.
