Brie Larson says that the script for The Marvels is “bonkers”

Every new MCU release is usually met with an effusive round of “quite unlike anything Marvel has done before”, and it appears that Marvel Studios’ upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels might also aim to achieve a similar reaction, because Brie Larson has called the script for Nia Candyman DaCosta’s blockbuster sequel “bonkers”.

During an in-depth interview with Uproxx, Larson was asked what she was legally allowed to say about The Marvels, to which she replied in a refreshingly honest manner, “I can tell you that it’s going to be really good. You know the drill. It’s like, we’re going to play this game for a while now, and we’re going to play this game for I don’t know, however long it takes for the movie to come out, where every interview, someone’s going to ask me a question.”

However, Larson did embellish her answer by adding “I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future. And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers. And it’s the thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent. They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films.”

Little is known about the plot of The Marvels, beyond the fact that the aforementioned script was written by WandaVision contributor Megan McDonnell, and that joining the returning Larson and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will be Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Zawe Ashton as a mystery villain.

Some of the best MCU entries are the ones which have broken with formula for as much of the film as possible – GOTG, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther – so it’s reassuring to know that The Marvels is potentially ‘bonkers’.
