Netflix partnering with 2K for Bioshock movie adaptation

February 16, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

For a long time the dystopian canvas of 2K’s ground-breaking videogame Bioshock was a major project for Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, but since that fell apart in 2009 there has only been the odd rumour about a potential adaptation, until now.

Deadline is reporting that Netflix is partnering with video game company Take-Two Interactive, and its game publisher subsidiary, 2K, to make a film based on their critically acclaimed video game series BioShock.

The franchise consists of three main games, BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite released in 2007, 2010, and 2013 respectively. The first two games take place in 1960 in the fictional underwater city of Rapture, whereas, Infinite takes place aboard the floating city of Columbia. The initial runs of each game has sold more than 39 million copies worldwide, and a fourth BioShock is currently in development.
