Amazon’s live-action She-Ra series enlists Watchmen director Nicole Kassell

May 25, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Back in September of last year it was announced that Amazon plans to bring the world of Etheria to life with a live-action She-Ra series, and now comes word that the project has set its director.

As revealed by Variety, Nicole Kassell is set to direct and executive produce the pilot episode of She-Ra, should it make it to the production stage. Kassell’s extensive C.V. includes the likes of Westworld, The Leftovers, The Americans and Castle Rock, along with multiple episodes of HBO’s Watchmen series, for which she received Emmy and DGA nominations.

Initially introduced as He-Man’s long-lost twin sister in 1985’s He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword (a connection that was removed for the recent She-Ra and the Princesses of Power animated series), She-Ra is the alter ego of Adora, a young girl who uses the Sword of Protection to grant herself incredible powers that she uses to battle Hordak and the Evil Horde.

The live-action She-Ra is being produced by DreamWorks Animation, the company behind She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, although it is said to be an original standalone project unrelated to past She-Ra and Masters of the Universe shows.
