Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial has been turned into a movie by Tubi

September 18, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Free streaming service Tubi has announced that Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, a feature film based upon the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial that gripped tabloids and social media around the world earlier this year, is set to premiere this month.

Produced Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, Hot Take has been directed by Sara Lohman (Secrets in the Woods) from a script by Guy Nicolucci (The Daily Show), and sees Mark Hapka (Days of Our Lives) and Megan Davis (Alone in the Dark) starring as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Melissa Marty (Station 19) and Mary Carrig (Law & Order True Crime) will play their respective lawyers, Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig.

“Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” said Hannah Pillemer, EVP of creative of affairs at MarVista Entertainment. “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”

The film was fast-tracked into production following Depp’s legal victory against his ex-wife on June 1st, with Tubi’s chief content officer Adam Lewinson stating that the streamer wanted “to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial will premiere on Tubi on Friday, September 30th.
