Ms Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie

October 24, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

So much of the recent Death Star style blue-print plans for the galaxy far far away have been focused on the small screen output, with the futures of Rian Johnson’s proposed trilogy, Taika Waititi’s solo-outing, a Kevin Feige-produced film and Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron all up in the air. Now you can add another Star Wars big-screen project to those already floating around Lucasfilm like debris from the destruction of Alderaan, with the news that Ms Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct Damon Lindelof’s secret Star Wars film.

Deadline reports that LOST and HBO’s The Watchmen scribe Lindelof has developed the film and that he is currently co-writing the script, though it’s not known who he is working alongside.

Sources told Deadline that although production is a long way off, Lucasfilm and Lindelof thought it important that a director be brought on so that person’s own vision for where they see this story headed gets included in the script, and so Ms Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been tasked with the job.

There are no details regarding what kind of Star Wars story this will be, with Lindelof just as keen on the mystery-box secrecy as the last person to direct a feature film in this universe, J.J. Abrams, who guided the sequel trilogy to a bumpy landing with 2019’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

As for Obaid-Chinoy, following her stint on Disney+ hit Ms Marvel, the Oscar-winner is set to direct Will Smith in Paramount’s sci-fi thriller Brilliance.
