Showtime kills off Dexter: New Blood as Young Dexter spin-off considered

January 31, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Despite ranking as Showtime’s most-watched series in the channel’s history, with weekly average viewing figures of 8 million, the network has decided to kill off Dexter: New Blood.

According to TVLine Showtime will not be moving forward with a second season of the revival show, however sources do reveal that they are planning to continue the Dexter franchise by exploring a potential Young Dexter spin-off series.

The next season of Dexter: New Blood was set to pick up with the titular killer’s son Harrison taking up the mantle of avenging dark angel from his late father (Michael C. Hall).

The news comes at a time when reports are suggesting Showtime are set to merge with Paramount+ in a newly branded streaming service, so the Dexter franchise could by one of the key properties when it comes to launch time.

Dexter: New Blood was set 10 years after the serial-killer went missing in the eye of the hurricane during the lamentable finale of the show’s original run, and found him hiding from his past under an assumed name in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York.
