Exclusive Interview – The Mandalorian’s Emily Swallow on The Armorer’s compelling mystique

March 17, 2023 by Ricky Church

Ricky Church chats with The Mandalorian star Emily Swallow…

When The Mandalorian first premiered in 2019, it quickly grabbed the attention of both Star Wars fans and the mainstream audience. While viewers tuned in to the weekly adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu, then nicknamed ‘Baby Yoda’, another character who stood out was The Armorer, the mysterious leader of Din’s Mandalorian clan/cult who ensured their strict traditions were upheld and passed on the myths and secrets of their history and culture.

We were able to speak with Emily Swallow, the actress behind the Armorer’s helmet as she readies for an appearance at this weekend’s Toronto Comicon. Swallow is a lifelong Star Wars fan with the mighty and furry Ewoks being her childhood favourite. We spoke about what it’s been like to join the Star Wars universe and utilizing the Armorer’s compelling mystique as audiences know very little about her, yet are drawn to her because of how regarded she is in her clan and her knowledge of ancient Mandalorian practices. She explained her process into getting into such a mysterious character, training for the stunts and what it’s like to wear the suit. Watch our interview below…

The Mandalorian streams on Disney+ with new episodes every Wednesday. Check out our latest review here.

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

The Mandalorian season 3 sees Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin joined by Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), Paz Vizsla (Jon Favreau), Omid Abtahi (Dr. Pershing) and Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), along with Christopher Lloyd and Tim Meadows.
