Jon Bernthal’s Punisher confirmed for MCU return in Daredevil: Born Again

March 7, 2023 by Gary Collinson

As filming officially gets underway on Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again, THR is reporting that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk won’t be the only familiar Netflix faces appearing in the Disney+ series as Jon Bernthal is also set to reprise his fan favourite role as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher.

Bernthal became the fourth actor to take on the role of the gun-toting vigilante after Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson when he debuted as The Punisher in season two of Marvel Television’s Daredevil, before spinning out into his own two-season show which was ultimately cancelled along with the rest of Netflix’s Marvel series.

Bernthal’s Punisher quickly became a fan favourite, and the actor has spoken on countless times about his love for the character, stating previously that: “It’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.”

While Bernthal is back, THR goes on to state that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are not on the production roll call to reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, and it’s unclear at this point whether the characters will be recast, or absent from the series. That news isn’t entirely surprising, as Woll revealed a few months back that she hadn’t had any contact with Marvel about a potential MCU return.

Born Again has made several new additions to its cast in Michael Gandolfino (The Many Saints of Newark), Margarita Levieva (The Deuce), Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) and Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon), although their roles are being kept under wraps at present.

Daredevil: Born Again will air on Disney+ in 2024.
