Joel Edgerton and Josh Hartnett enter the race to play The Batman: Part II’s Harvey Dent

June 9, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Being a political figure in Gotham City is never easy, especially if you’re the ill-fated Harvey Dent. It seems like Matt Reeves’ will explore this character’s bleak future in The Batman: Part II, the upcoming sequel to the hit 2021 film.

A new report from Jeff Sneider via John Rocha’s The Hot Mic claims Reeves has been circling two actors for the role of Harvey Dent, who eventually becomes the villainous Two-Face. The names in question are Joel Edgerton and Josh Hartnett.

Many are excited to see Joel Edgerton’s name brought up, as they feel his gruff style will work well within the world of Matt Reevees’ The Batman, given he’ll be facing off with Robert Pattinson in the cape & cowl. Edgerton has mostly avoided major movie franchises his entire career, but he did appear in the Star Wars prequels and the recent Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

As for Harnett, he is familiar with the world of Batman. While he’s up for one of the Caped Crusader’s main baddies, the actor was once up for the role of Bruce Wayne for Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight saga.

Earlier this year, Harnett told Playboy Magazine that he regrets turning down the part, saying, “I’ve definitely said no to some of the wrong people. I said no because I was tired and wanted to spend more time with my friends and family.”

Per this report, Edgerton or Harnett will join the returning cast, including Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Zoë Kravitz, and Colin Farrell. Rumors have also swirled that Academy Award-nominated Barry Keoghan will have an expanded role, returning as his briefly-teased Joker.
