Mia Goth horror sequel MaXXXine described as “whodunnit slasher”

September 21, 2023 by Ricky Church

There is a lot of anticipation for MaXXXine, the third horror film in Ti West’s series following Mia Goth’s Maxine Minx from X and Pearl. While little has been revealed about MaXXXine, the film may be influenced by murder mysteries for its third and final chapter.

According to the UK horror magazine Scream, a source told the outlet MaxXxine will be a “whodunnit slasher” as the bodies keep piling up around Maxine. The film takes place “six years after the farmstead massacre of X. She is now LA-based and on a driven quest to become a star in the acting world. Things take a sinister turn when bodies once again begin to fall around the starlet.”

Starring alongside Goth in MaXXXine is popstar musician Halsey, Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill), Michelle Monaghan (Spinning Gold), Lilly Collins (Emily in Paris), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) and musician Moses Sumney.

2022 saw Ti West’s trilogy take shape with X, a 70s set slasher that paid homage to some of the genre’s very best films, while the covertly-shot prequel Pearl blew everyone away (read our ★★★★★ review here) with its shades of grey, as-well-as a fair dollop of red, depiction of what shaped Mia Goth’s murderous farm-girl.

MaXXXine completed production in May before the beginning of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. As of now, now word has been said about its potential release date or when a trailer might be revealed.
