Doug Liman to direct Regé-Jean Page in The Saint

November 20, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman is set to return to the world of espionage to helm Paramount’s reboot of 60’s spy-series The Saint starring Regé-Jean Page

According to Deadline Liman will also oversee development of The Saint, which will also being executive produced by Dungeons & Dragons and The Gray Man star Page.

As with all spy movies, secrets are the order of the day, so plot details are being kept under wraps, although Black Adam and The Maritanian scribes Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani are penning the script.

Based on books written by Leslie Charteris in the 1920s, the TV adaptation of The Saint ran between 1962 and 1969, and starred Roger Moore as Simon Templar, a kind-of Robin Hood spy who robbed from the criminally rich and gave to the poor. Val Kilmer appeared in a big-budget adaptation directed by Dead Calm’s Phillip Noyce in 1997, but its underwhelming critical and commercial reception ensured that was the only big-screen mission for The Saint so far.

Liman has just wrapped another high-profile reimagining in the form of the Jake Gyllenhaal-led Road House reboot, and still has plans to film in outer-space with Tom Cruise in tow, while Regé-Jean Page is currently in pre-production on Amazon’s Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid series.
