Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez go Overboard

March 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

MGM and Pantelion Films have found the leads for the upcoming Overboard remake, with Deadline reporting that Anna Faris (Mom) and Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included) are set to star in the new film, which is being written and directed by Rob Greenberg (How I Met Your Mother) and Bob Fisher (We’re the Millers).

The original 1987 Garry Marshall comedy saw Kurt Russell as a carpenter who looks to get revenge on Goldie Hawn’s spoiled and selfish heiress by pretending she is his wife after she suffers amnesia falling off her yacht. The new film will see a role reversal, with Derbez starring as a playboy from one of Mexico’s wealthiest families and Faris as a working-class single mother who convinces him that he is her husband.

Overboard will reunite Derbez with Pantelion Films and distributors Lionsgate, who are releasing his latest film How to Be a Latin Lover in the U.S. in April.
