48 Meters Down gets a June 2019 release date

October 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was announced that a sequel to this year’s hit shark thriller 47 Meters Down – creatively titled 48 Meters Down – is in development, and now we have word that the follow-up will hit theaters on June 28th 2019 courtesy of distributors Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures.

47 Meters Down was directed by Johannes Roberts and saw Claire Holt and Mandy Moore as two sisters on holiday in Mexico, who find themselves trapped in a cage and fighting for survival in shark-infested waters when a cage diving trip goes wrong. It grossed $53.9 million worldwide this summer from a budget of $5.5 million.

Roberts is returning to the director’s chair on the sequel, which takes place in Brazil and follows five girls “looking for adventure who hear about some hidden underwater ruins, only to find that the turquoise waves of their secret Atlantis aren’t completely uninhabited.
