50 Cent bringing black superhero series Trill League to Quibi

December 22, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson is teaming with Lionsgate to produce an animated adaptation of Anthony Piper’s anime and hip-hop infused superhero parody comic Trill League for the short form streaming service Quibi.

The series has been written and created by Piper and Jameel Saleem (South Park), who will both executive produce alongside 50 Cent and his G-Unit Film & Television and Jermain Johnson of 3 Arts Entertainment. The official synopsis for Trill League reads:

“In an era of social injustice and internet trolls, a league of black superheroes, Trill League is tasked with saving the world from monsters, super villains and haters of all kinds. Get ready for this remixed rendition of your favorite superheroes as the series satirizes modern American society.”

“As an artist and writer, I couldn’t be more excited to fulfill this lifelong dream of creating a world with voices which reflected the one I came from,” said Piper. “Working alongside my talented co-writer Jameel, as well as all of the partners involved (G-Unit, Lionsgate, Quibi, 3Arts), this has been one of the dopest endeavors of my creative career.”

“I am excited to bring G-Unit Film & Television to an innovative platform like Quibi with my partners at Lionsgate and 3 Arts,” added 50 Cent.. “Anthony Piper and Jameel Saleem have created a world we haven’t seen before in Trill League, looking forward to sharing it soon.”

Headed up by former Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, Quibi is set to launch on April 6th 2020 and will be targeted exclusively at mobile devices, presenting short-form content in “chapters” lasting 10 minutes or less.
