A recent report from Variety has confirmed that the iconic HBO series, Game of Thrones, will be returning to Spain to film part of the show’s sixth season.
It’s fairly common knowledge that Game of Thrones was filmed partly in Spain during the show’s fifth season, which is currently airing across the world. However, recent information suggests that filming will commence in a number of new Spanish locations during the creation of the next series. The first new location is set to be the city of Gerona, located about 60 miles northeast of Barcelona. The Mediterranean seaside resort, Peñiscola, is also set to appear in the upcoming season.
It’s hard to guess exactly what this means for the story of season six, but it seems safe to assume we will be seeing more of Dorne, a fictional kingdom that has been brought to life and filmed throughout Spain during the making of the show’s fifth season.
Filming for Season Six of Game of Thrones is set to commence during July 2015, in Belfast.
