J.J. Abrams reteaming with Overlord director for subversive superhero thriller The Heavy

May 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that producer J.J. Abrams is reteaming with Julius Avery, director of the upcoming World War II supernatural thriller Overlord, for the superhero thriller The Heavy.

Scripted by Daniel Casey (Drag Me to Hell), The Heavy is described as “a subversive take on the superhero genre”, although plot details are being kept firmly under wraps.

Paramount Pictures is producing the movie, and the plan is for it to go into production later this year. This will cap off a busy year for Abrams, who is set to go into production on Star Wars: Episode IX this summer.

Overlord – which was thought to be the fourth instalment in the Cloverfield series until Abrams dismissed those reports – is set for release in October after impressing audiences at CinemaCon last week.
