SDCC: Wesley Snipes has met with Marvel about another Blade movie

July 9, 2015 by Justin Cook

Wesley Snipes, star of all three Blade films, revealed during an interview with Deadline that he has met with Marvel Studios about reprising his role as the vampire-human hybrid for a future Blade project.

When asked about making a fourth film based on the character, Snipes said, “[Blade 4] is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.”

Snipes was also asked if he would be interested in joining the Marvel Universe in another way, to which he replied, “That’s a possibility too. I’ve always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations, and [it’d] be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don’t [do] a Blade 4 or something else with Marvel, we’ll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful.”

With all the Marvel superhero movies being released nowadays, from Iron Man to Spider-Man, it’s easy to forget that in many ways Blade ushered in a new era of superhero films.

The film was released in 1998, and grossed over three times as much as its $40 million budget at the box office. Blade II hit theaters in 2002, while Blade: Trinity, the third and final film in the series, came out in 2004.
