Warning: Black Panther spoilers follow…
Director Ryan Coogler certainly wasn’t shy when it came to dispatching the villains in February’s Black Panther movie, with both Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaue failing to make it through to the end credits of the Marvel blockbuster.
Speaking to The Toronto Sun, the filmmaker has admitted that he was reluctant to kill off one of the antagonists, and perhaps surprisingly, it wasn’t his frequent collaborator Jordan’s Killmonger.
“I like Klaw,” said Coogler. “I was bugged by having to do that. It’s tough when you have to kill characters off and I really did love that character. “I love Andy, he’s a lovely person. But again, it’s one of those things where when you’ve got so many people in a movie, some of them have to go. Klaw in this movie, he’s just having a good time. Every scene he’s in, he’s walking in like it’s the best day of his life. He’s got a swagger to him that’s interesting and for me it was cool to see Andy act like that. It was a real pleasure.”
Considering that Klaw is arguably the Black Panther’s arch-nemesis, it perhaps was a little surprising to see him bite the dust so early. Let us know what you made of his death in the comments below…
