Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy exit The Crow

May 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The long-gestating remake of The Crow has suffered yet another setback, with Deadline reporting that star Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy have both exited the film due to creative and financial differences with producer and financier Samuel Hadida of Davis Films.

Pre-production on The Crow has been in full swing with filming slating to begin next month in Budapest. However, according to the outlet, Hadida was yet to close a distribution deal with Sony Pictures – despite Sony announced a US release date of October 11th 2019 back in March – and the failure to reach an agreement had left the studio ready to pull out. As a result, both Momoa and Hardy then chose to withdraw.

A remake of The Crow was first announced back in 2008, and was initially in the works at Relativity Media before the company’s collapse. The project has passed through the hands of several directors including Stephen Norrington, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Francisco Javier Gutierrez, while actors linked to the role of Eric Draven – played by Brandon Lee in the 1994 original – include Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgard, Luke Evans, Jack Huston, Nicholas Hoult, Jack O’Connell and pretty much any other actor you can think of.

Are you surprised by this news? Is it time to give up on The Crow? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
