Geoff Johns to write and produce Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan and John Stewart confirmed

June 12, 2018 by Gary Collinson

DC Entertainment’s president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns has announced that he is stepping down from his position in order to launch a new company, Mad Ghost Productions, which will enter an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. and DC to create new content based on current DC properties and reimagined IP.

As part of this new partnership, Johns is set to write and produce the DC Extended Universe movie Green Lantern Corps which is said to be based on his Green Lantern comic book run and – despite recent rumours to the contrary – has now officially been confirmed to focus on the characters of Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

“Geoff is a super talented writer and truly embedded in the DC Universe and its characters,” said Warner Bros. Chariman Toby Emmerich. “We’re thrilled that he’s returning to his passion and his roots as a writer and producer. And, it’s even better that he’s staying in our Warner Bros. family. We look forward to working with him on Green Lantern and other projects going forward.”

“I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters,” said Johns. “I’m also excited to continue to work with the amazing team at DCE and my colleagues at Warner Bros.”

In addition to Green Lantern Corps, Johns has also co-written and executive produced Aquaman, and is writing and executive producing Wonder Woman 2. On the TV side of things, he is executive producing the live-action DC Universe series Titans, as well as the Doom Patrol spinoff.

At this point, it’s unclear whether David S. Goyer remains involved with Green Lantern Corps, having signed on last year to produce the movie and co-write the original script with Justin Rhodes (Masters of the Universe).

There’s also no word on whether Warner Bros. is still eyeing a 2020 release date for the movie, although perhaps we’ll get an official announcement on that front during next month’s San Diego Comic-Con International, where it has been rumoured we’ll see the unveiling of a DCEU “rebranding”.
