Hotel Transylvania to become a TV series at Sony

July 14, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Deadline is reporting that Sony’s hit film Hotel Transylvania is being developed as the next animated film to make the switch to the small screen.

The series will be produced by Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Studio and is set to be released in 2017. Rick Mischel of Sony Pictures Animation is to serve as executive producer of the series, alongside Irene Weibel and Colin Bohm of Nelvana.

“The hilarious characters and clever premise of Hotel Transylvania set the stage for endless story possibilities,” said Colin Bohm, VP and Head of Corus Kids, with Sony Animation president Kristine Belson adding that, “Audiences have embraced the world and characters of Hotel Transylvania, so we are thrilled to be partnering with Nelvana to take them on new adventures.”

The show is set to tell the story of the teenage years of Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, and her ghoulish friends. No word yet on whether the voice cast of the film will return for the show, which will be distributed in the US by Sony Pictures Television, while Nelvana will take care of other global territories.

Hotel Translyvania grossed over $358 million worldwide in 2012, and the sequel us set for release on September 25th. Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi, David Spade and Kevin James return to the voice cast for Hotel Transylvania 2, joined by legendary comedy actor and director Mel Brooks.
