Rick and Morty co-creator says long breaks between seasons will soon be a thing of the past

June 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After facing an anxious wait for word on the show’s future, fans of Rick and Morty received some fantastic news last month with the announcement that Adult Swim has ordered 70 new episodes of the beloved animated comedy series.

Based on the show’s first three seasons, that presumably translates into seven additional seasons, and now co-creator Justin Roiland has some more good news as he has revealed to Polygon that the long wait between seasons will soon be a thing of the past.

“We‘re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security. Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.”

We will presumably face a lengthy wait however for the fourth season to arrive (it’s expected “late 2019”), but Roiland went on to reassure fans that it will be worth it, adding: “It’s exciting, it’s a little surreal. Even just being in the writers room for half the day every day this week, the ideas are… it’s going to be great.”
