Drew Goddard plans to start working on X-Force after the release of Bad Times at the El Royale

July 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite the impending acquisition of 20th Century Fox’s film and TV assets, the studio is hoping to squeeze through one or two more superhero movies before the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four find themselves back at Marvel Studios (assuming Comcast doesn’t hijack the deal).

One such project is X-Force, which is set to reunite Deadpool 2 co-stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino), with Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) directing.

Previous reports have said that X-Force will begin filming in October, but it looks like things may have to wait a little longer, as Goddard has revealed to CinemaBlend that he’ll not be turning his attention to the X-Men spinoff until after the release of his latest film Bad Times at the El Royale.

“I’ve learned I’m very much a one-movie-at-a-time kind of guy, and they all know,” said Goddard. “It’s the same studio, which is nice, so they can say, ‘Okay, get [Bad Times At The El Royale] done,’ and then once I get this movie done and get this into theaters we’ll turn our attention that way.”

Bad Times at the El Royale is slated for release on October 12th, so one would have to assume that filming on X-Force is unlikely to get underway before the New Year, at which point the Disney-Fox deal may already be wrapped up and the project could potentially find itself shelved.

Are you hopeful that Fox will push through the X-Force movie before any takeover is complete? Do you want to see Reynolds and company back for another outing? Let us know in the comments below…
