Julie Ann Emery cast in Hulu’s Catch-22

July 10, 2018 by Ricky Church

George Clooney’s upcoming adaptation of Catch-22 has just gained another cast member. According to Deadline, Julie Ann Emery (Preacher) will join the Hulu series in a recurring role. She’ll star alongside Christopher Abbott (The Sinner), George Clooney (Ocean’s 11), Hugh Laurie (Veep) and Kyle Chandler (Game Night).

Emery will play Marion Scheisskopf, who’s married to Scheisskopf (Clooney), but having an affair with Yossarian (Abbott). Earthy and beautiful, she’s passionate but bored. Restless. A little sad, even. Yet alone with Yossarian, she’s mischievous and playful. She connects with him. It’s mental and intellectual as well as physical. She made a huge mistake marrying the awful Scheisskopf, and dreams of a bigger life.

The series will run for 6-episodes and will see Clooney directing alongside Grant Heslov and Ellen Kuras. The book was written by Joseph Heller in 1970 and has been adapted by Luke Davis and David Michod. It will premiere on Hulu in 2019.

Catch-22 stars Abbott as U.S. Air Force bombadier Yossarian, “who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.”
