Fox developing a 24 prequel series featuring a young Jack Bauer

July 31, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Jack Bauer may live another day, as Variety is reporting that 24 showrunner Howard Gordon and co-creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran are working on a prequel series which would focus on a younger iteration of the character.

According to the site, the project is in the early stages of development, as as yet there’s no word on a potential timeframe for when it might make it to air, if ever.

The Kiefer Sutherland-headlined 24 originally rand for eight seasons between 2002 and 2010, with Sutherland then reprising the role of Bauer for the limited series 24: Live Another Day in 2014. This was followed in 2017 by 24: Legacy, another limited series, this time focusing on a new character, Eric Carter, played by Corey Hawkins.

Late last year, it had been reported that Fox was looking to reinvent 24 as a real-time legal thriller, with Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer said to be working on a reboot which would follow a female prosecutor who uncovers a legal conspiracy during the countdown to the execution of a death row inmate who she helped to convict. It’s not clear at present whether those plans have been shelved.

Are you excited about the prospect of a 24 prequel featuring a young Jack Bauer, or has the series ran its course already? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
