Evangeline Lilly says that the first Ant-Man “was more fun” to film than Ant-Man and the Wasp

September 5, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Ant-Man and the Wasp actress Evangeline Lilly has revealed that she preferred making the first Ant-Man movie over the sequel.

While Evangeline Lilly and her character Hope played a significant part in the first Ant-Man, the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, brought a much larger spotlight to the character, putting her on equal footing with Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

But according to Lilly, the extra attention didn’t equate to more fun on set, as she has revealed at a Fan Expo Canada panel that the first film was more enjoyable to make:

“You guys are going to be so disappointed by my answer.” Lilly said in response to which movie she preferred filming. “I enjoyed filming Ant-Man more than I enjoyed filming Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ant-Man and the Wasp was — Am I allowed to swear? It’s an eleven year old who asked me the question, so maybe I shouldn’t. But man, it was tough. It was a tough shoot.

“And it was particularly tough for me, because I am controlling. And I had to share this character suddenly with an entire team of people, from a huge team of stunt people – I had three stunt women on the movie. [I had to share] with the special effects team, with the editors, with the post-production team, with the producers and the director. Everybody had so much more of a say, and work to do, to create this character, that I felt like, at the end of the day, like I was responsible for 25% of her. And that was so hard for me to let go of control and just say ‘Okay, I trust you guys and I’m sure it’s going to be amazing.’ I kept kind of grasping, like ‘No! Give her back! I wanna do everything!’ …So Ant-Man was more fun for me.”

With Lilly explaining it like that, it’s not hard to see why she gave the answer she did. Losing control over a character you love and having to rely on others to help you tell her story must be difficult. Of course, whether or not she preferred how Ant-Man turned out as a film over the sequel is another question entirely.

Which Ant-Man film did you prefer? Let us know in the comments below…

Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.
