Star Wars: The Last Jedi star might not return to social media after online abuse

September 12, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Kelly Marie Tran has revealed that she might not ever come back to social media after the abuse she received for her part in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

By now, we are all well aware of the crazed reactions to Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the venomous comments some so-called fans directed at those involved with the film. One of those people was actress Kelly Marie Tran, who decided to leave social media after the abuse got too much.

But will she ever come back and reclaim a social media presence? Tran isn’t so sure about that, even many months later. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress said: “I think that there are, just like anything else, really good and really bad things that come with anything,” Tran shared after writing an op-ed about her experience. “I felt like I wanted to write something that was honest, that truly came from me, and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back.”

It’s certainly sad to hear about her experience, especially being targeted by some for immutable characteristics like her race and gender. Hopefully, fans will refrain from giving in to their worst impulses when Episode IX releases.
