The series began in 2013 from creator Jenji Kohan and is based on the true memoir of Piper Kerman’s Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, with some of the events based on her real experiences. Prior to the start of the series’ fourth season, Netflix took a bold move by renewing the show for a fifth, sixth and seventh season right then.

Orange Is the New Black stars a large ensemble cast that includes Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Uzo Aduba, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Nick Sandow, Adrienne C. Moore, Laverne Cox and more. The final episodes will air in 2019.
