Charlie Cox and Daredevil season 3 showrunner breakdown that 10-minute hallway fight scene

October 24, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Charlie Cox and the showrunner of Daredevil season three, have discussed that impressive 10-minute prison fight sequence.

Daredevil has become known for its dazzling fight sequences, particularly for the traditional hallway fight scenes that seem to find their way into each season.

Season three may have just topped everything that came before it, however, treating fans to a brutal hallway prison battle as Matt fights off guards and prisoners. The scene is 10-minutes long and is presented in one long continuous cut which took a whole day to work on.

Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes, showrunner Erike Oleson spoke a little about the scene that was shot in real time: “It was insane what Charlie and the stunt double and the stunts team and the guest director pulled off. I’m glad that we were able to do the whole version of the hallway fight.”

Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, offered his thoughts as well: “I felt like it was gonna be too much of an ask. So it’s an amazing testament to all of us, the stunt team particularly, that we were able to pull it off.”

One of the components that make this particular fight scene unique is that Matt isn’t prepared for a fight. Cox discussed how this impacted the sequence: “You can’t plan anything. You can’t plan how you’re going to take someone down, really. You have to just prepare yourself to be as quick and as powerful as you can be.”

Normal fight scenes in the show are broken up for different camera angles but this one has not cuts, no rest: “The great thing about doing a one-take scene is you don’t have to act tired,” Cox said, pointing out Matt’s exhaustion by the time the fight is over, adding that as an actor he was “literally that tired.”

Oleson added: “I also was just stoked to see him fight as Matt Murdock. I totally geeked out on that.”

Were you a fan of the prison fight scene in Daredevil season three? Let us know what you thought of this moment and the entire season in the comments below.

Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Season three of Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin) all returning to the cast alongside new additions Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) as Sister Maggie and Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) as Bullseye.
