Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is already filming Season 2

October 26, 2018 by Ricky Church

Today sees the release of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix, but lead star Kiernan Shipka has revealed the series’ second season has already begun production.

Netflix greenlit two seasons of the Archie Comics adaptation immediately, one of the primary reasons for its move from The CW to the popular streaming service, but in a talk with Bloody Disgusting Shipka said they actually began filming the second season as soon as they were finished the first.

“We went straight into the second season from the first,” Shipka said. “It’s been really so exceptionally fun to film, especially given the fact that I feel like we’re already in such a rhythm from coming out of the first season that to jump right into the second one was really, really fun and just a great opportunity to keep the momentum going. We definitely… Sabrina definitely changes and shifts a lot. Her growth is very evident and the second season definitely has a different spin on it than the first season. They’re very different from each other.”

As for what changes the show would face in its second season, Shipka kept mum but teased some interesting outcomes for Sabrina’s life. “I would just say that, without giving too much away, because it would be a bit of a spoiler, the way that Sabrina’s life takes certain turns and certain decisions she makes inform the second season. The finale of the first season sets up a lot. It goes in a different direction. We see more different characters. It deals with a different side of things.”

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina features a cast that includes Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) as Sabrina, Jaz Sinclair (Slender Man) as Rosalind Walker, Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) as Aunt Hilda, Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings) as Aunt Zelda, Ross Lynch (My Friend Dahmer) as Harvey Kinkle, Richard Coyle (The Collection) as Father Blackwood, Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers) as Principal George Hawthorne, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) as Mary Wardell, Tati Gabrielle (The 100) as Prudence and newcomer Chance Perdomo as Ambrose.
