Director Fede Alvarez is currently out and about on the press tour for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Sony’s follow-up to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and the filmmaker has been providing updates on three other potential sequels on his upcoming slate.
Firstly, Alvarez spoke to MovieWeb about possible sequels to his first two movies Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe, stating that: “They’re just ideas right now. Nothing to announce officially. We do have a script for Don’t Breathe 2. That’s the only difference. We don’t have a script for Evil Dead 2. But we do have a script for Don’t Breathe 2 that we wrote. Once I’m done with [The Girl in the Spider’s Web] we’re gonna start thinking of ways to bring that story to the screen. Me directing or me producing. It really depends on the time that we’ll have. I’m particularly excited about that because it’s a really different sequel, when it comes to sequels. It’s a very different approach and I’m excited about that.”
If you cast your mind back to April 2017, you may recall that Alvarez also boarded a sequel to the cult 80s fantasy Labyrinth, and he’s revealed to Fandango that he remains attached to the the project, and it too has a script, albeit a very early draft: “I was actually having lunch yesterday with Lisa Henson and we reconnected with that project. We’re very excited about it. It is basically a direct continuation of the first movie many years later, and I can’t tell you much more about it… but we have a script, and we’re very excited about it so we’ll see where that goes. Like always, it takes time and effort to put those movies together because they’re larger than life. But that’s one of the projects that I’m very excited about.”

Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller. Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, the star of “The Crown,” will play the outcast vigilante defender under the direction of Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016’s breakout thriller Don’t Breathe; the screenplay adaptation is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is set for release on November 9th in the States and on November 21st in the UK.
