Peter Jackson looking to help out with Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series

December 15, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Although it was rumoured earlier this year that Peter Jackson could be set for a return to Middle-earth with Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series, the director subsequently debunked the reports, and confirmed that he’ll have no creative input into the hugely ambitious fantasy series.

Well, with his latest project Mortal Engines now in cinemas, it seems that Jackson has some time on his hands, and the filmmaker has revealed to Metro that he’s keen to offer some advice to the showrunners and is waiting to see some scripts.

“I don’t have thoughts on it because I haven’t seen [anything],” said Jackson. “I think they’re going to send us some scripts to see if we can help them along. I wish them all the best and if we can help them we certainly will try. It’s a big task.”

While details on Amazon’s plans for The Lord of the Rings are being kept tightly under wraps, it has been suggested that the show could be set in the same version of Middle-earth that Jackson created for his trilogy and subsequent Hobbit trilogy, and may revolve around a young Aragorn.

The Lord of the Rings is being developed by Star Trek 4 and Jungle Cruise writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay, and has a five-season commitment from Amazon at a reported cost of $1 billion.
