It doesn’t hit U.S. shores until this coming Friday, but Warner Bros. and DC Films’ superhero blockbuster Aquaman is already proving a solid hit around the globe, with the Jason Momoa-headlined solo movie hitting $261 million worldwide.
Following a bumper opening in China last weekend, Aquaman expanded into a further 42 markets this frame, grossing $126.4 million over the weekend to bring its total to $261.3 million internationally. It dropped just 42% in its second weekend in China, where it is already the fourth-highest grossing superhero movie ever with $189.2 million.
The most recent tracking numbers for Aquaman suggested that it would gross around $100 million domestically over the five-day Christmas weekend, but with strong reviews and plenty of buzz online, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the sixth instalment of the DC Extended Universe went on to exceed those predictions.
