IG-88 to make Star Wars return in The Mandalorian

December 26, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Making a fleeting appearance in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes back as one of the bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to track the Millennium Falcon, the assassin droid is later seen in the incinerator room in Cloud City, having been left for scrap after tussling off-camera with Boba Fett.

Interestingly, it has recently been rumoured that Nick Nolte is portraying an Ugnaught, so perhaps Nolte’s character was present on Bespin during the events Empire, and rescued IG-88 after Lando ordered the city to be evacuated?

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2019 and features a cast that includes Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
