Captain Marvel is not a traditional origin story says film’s directors

January 10, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The directors of Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, say that the upcoming superhero blockbuster is “not a traditional origin story”.

At this point in time of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s life span, fans have gotten pretty used to seeing origin stories – some more effective than others. So with the arrival of Captain Marvel on to the scene, can we expect more of the same?

Well, apparently not according to co-director of the film Anna Boden. Speaking to Fandango she said: “I think one of the really fun things about this movie, because it is an origin story, is that it’s not your traditional origin story. What’s going to be fun and surprising for an audience is going to be uncovering the mystery of how this particular superhero got her powers and became who she is, along with [being] on a journey with this character. It was a really fun way to make a movie, a really fun way to imagine an origin story, because it has this nontraditional structure. I think it’s going to be a fun ride for people.”

From what you’ve seen so far, do you see Captain Marvel becoming a successful origin tale for the character? Let us know in the comments below…
