Captain Marvel producer says the film’s setting is evenly split between space and Earth

January 11, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Captain Marvel executive producer Jonathan Schwartz says that the film is pretty much a 50/50 split when it comes to being set in space and on Earth.

There is certainly an appetite among Marvel fans for cosmic themed MCU films and with the nebulous nature of Guardians of the Galaxy at the moment, many will be hoping that Captain Marvel can meet that demand.

But how much of the film is set in space compared to Earth? Well, according to executive producer of the film Jonathan Schwartz, it’s a pretty even split. Speaking to ComicBook.com on set, Schwartz said:

“In terms of Earth versus Space, it’s more or less 50-50. The movie starts in space gets to Earth relatively quickly and it goes back to space for kind of some of the third act. So it’s kind of space Earth space. There is a big Earth plot that ends up tying into a lot of our more cosmic goings on.

“It’s really focused on the Kree-Skrull war. There are little elements there of other stuff and sort of Blink and you miss it moments. But the Kree-Skrull conflict is kind of the heart of the movie.”

This will certainly be pleasing to many fans who are hoping to see plenty of the film’s action set in space. But what about you? Does this 5o/50 split between space and earth sound like the right balance? Let us know in the comments below…

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. Jackson (The Avengers), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls), Gemma Chan (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Algenis Perez Soto (Sambá), Rune Temte (Eddie The Eagle), McKenna Grace (I, Tonya), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding), Vik Sahay (Chuck), Kenneth Mitchell (Star Trek: Discovery), Chuku Modo (The Good Doctor), Clark Gregg (The Avengers) and Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
