Comic Book Review – Fantastic Four #6

January 18, 2019 by Allen Christian

Allen Christian reviews Fantastic Four #6…

Dan Slott’s Fantastic Four marches on. Issue #5 ended with the revelation that Galactus has returned, and he has landed in the homeland of Doctor Doom, Latveria. This month’s issue brings that to the forefront, and it is action-packed.

Unfortunately, it isn’t original. It is fun, but a lot of it seems like old-hat. The first part of the “Herald of Doom” storyline, the book sets a good tone and keeps a good pace. The art of Aaron Kruder is functional, but unremarkable. Slott seems to settle into the characters a little more and understands the kind of rapport the team should have. His Doctor Doom strikes the tone that Doom should.

There are foundations laid here that could potentially build into something more, especially with the character of Zora. With this story arc set to stretch through issue #9, there is plenty of potential for it to build into something more than the sum of the parts laid out here.

Slott hasn’t hit the ground running with this series. Half a year in and he hasn’t made much of a mark. However, he seems to be steadily engineering a direction for the book that could end up being a noteworthy addition to the FF canon. Only time will tell how his body of work stacks up.

Rating: 6/10
