Christopher Nolan’s next film gets July 2020 release date

January 26, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this month Flickering Myth’s Samuel Brace wrote an article entitled ‘What Could Christopher Nolan’s Next Film Be and When We Will Hear About It?‘, and now we have an answer to part of that question.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has announced that Nolan’s next film will arrive in IMAX cinemas on July 17th 2020. As ever with the filmmaker, details are being kept tightly under wraps, and all we have in terms of details is that it is being described as “an event film”.

It’s no surprise that Nolan is eyeying a July release date, given that four of his last five movies – 2008’s The Dark Knight, 2010’s Inception, 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises and 2017’s Dunkirk – all opened in that same month.

The July 17th date puts it in direct competition with 20th Century Fox’s Bob’s Burgers movie and Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, and a week ahead of Disney’s fantasy adventure Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

We will of course keep you updated with further news on the project as it becomes available.
